Classroom Procedures
Birthday Celebrations:
We will be trying something differently this year for birthdays. We would like to celebrate birthdays for each month all on the same day. Please see the attached calendar for celebration dates. We will decorate the room and throw a little in class party during lunch on these designated days. We are asking that parents sign-up today if they would like to contribute to the birthday celebration for the month of their child’s birthday for the months of August, September, October, and November. We will still acknowledge your child’s birthday on their actual birthday, but this method allows for less disruptions to the school day. All birthday treats must be healthy to continue to support MCMA’s building a healthy community initiative. Snack suggestions include; a fruit snacks, fruit trays, cheese and crackers, sugar-free jello, and cheese sticks.
Snacks:
It is important to send in a snack each day as our lunch is scheduled from 12:45 – 1:15 p.m. Students may bring in one healthy snack each day (NO candy, chips, etc…) to have before lunch. Please do not send in pop or dark colored juice. Snack is usually at 10:15 a.m. The snack should not require refrigeration, but may remain in a lunch box if needed. Snack should be something that is easy to eat and not require a fork or a spoon. Items such as fruit slices, graham crackers, carrot sticks, and animal or goldfish crackers are great ideas for snack. Each student may also bring in a water bottle to keep at their desk.
Classroom Jobs:
Jobs will include positions such as line leader, librarian, pencil sharpener, pollution control, messenger, etc… Job positions will be chosen from the job chart in the classroom. These positions will change periodically. Jobs help student to learn the important task of responsibility, as well as help to keep our classroom neat and organized.
Classroom Store:
Students will have the opportunity to earn “tickets” as a reward for showing his/her personal best. Tickets can be earned throughout the day and used to purchase items in our class store. The store is run based on parent donations. Items such a pencils, erasers, puzzles, games, etc…would be greatly appreciated. The store will teach the students the value of saving money and reinforce mathematical, as well as economic skills.
Behavior Marbles:
Students earn marbles as a class. These marbles can be earned for exceptional behavior. The class may also lose marbles for not so exceptional behavior. Once students have filled the marble bowl, they will be rewarded with a class party of their choice (pajama party, electronic party, etc…). This is a class effort and encourages students to work together toward a common goal.
Book Orders:
Book and Software orders will be sent home once a month. You may pay by cash or check. Checks need to be made payable to” Scholastic, Inc.” You may also order and pay online at:
